As spices could prevent many heart related ailments, researchers said that a new drug extracted from turmeric could be used to treat stroke patients successfully. The most common spice turmeric that is familiar to the Indian kitchen can help protect & repair brain cells after stroke.
The researchers created a new molecule from curcumin, which is a chemical found in Turmeric. In the experiment, they found that the molecule could regenerate the damage of the brain cells' neurons. Researchers said that when a stroke occurs, the brain cells die due to lack of oxygen. The extract from turmeric called CNB-001 could treat and protect the brain cells after the stroke.
The study was presented at the American Heart Association International Stroke Conference in in Los Angeles. The chemical curcumin is mostly used in laboratory experiments and to treat range of gastrointestinal disorders.
