Sleep protects memories from Corruption!

Do you know sleep protects memories from corruption! Yes, its true. Few researchers in Germany & Switzerland 've reported online on January 23 in Nature Neuroscience that reactivating memories while sleeping save memories from being corrupted. This study concluded that a thing can be best remembered while you are asleep.

Bjorn Rasch of the University of Basel in Switzerland, who led this study, suggested that remembering latest memories during sleep than doing it when awake strengthened the memory trace. This new finding can help doctors to offer better treatment for disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

ABC Science researchers stated, "As we expected, reactivation during waking destabilized memories. In contrast, reactivation during SWS immediately stabilized memories, thereby directly increasing their resistance to interference". Sara Mednick, a cognitive neuroscientist at the University of California, San Diego, who was not a part of this research states that - brain responds differently to the memories in a state of sleep & while awake. She further expresses her belief that this research will help doctors to omit traumatic memories & replacing the bad with the good ones hence building a healthy memory trace.

A memory test conducted on various sleeping & non-sleeping volunteers concluded that non-sleeping group was only correct about 42% of the time while on the other hand sleeping group reported 84% correctness. If you really like this post, please don't forget to promote!
