WHO endorses new test for tuberculosis

Everyone knows World Health Organisation (WHO) is deliberately working for eradication of diseases, now it has endorsed a new test for tuberculosis. The test will give accurate diagnosis for TB in 100 minutes. The new test is believed to be a major milestone for TB diagnosis & care. The test must be beneficial for people who 've developed the risk of TB & drug-resistant diseases.

According to the director of the WHO's Stop TB department Mario Raviglione, India is recorded as the third highest in TB cases in the world. Nearly about two million cases 've been recorded in 2009. The news test may bring a new hope for patients for the proper treatment being diagnosed.

The WHO reports that every year around 500,000 people die from the disease in India, more than 1,000 die every day, one in every minute. The existing Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) can give proper diagnosis, but it takes 18 months for assessment. However, the test is unable to diagnose the multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) & TB by HIV infection. The Organisation said that it will release the testing protocols (or algorithms) that will optimise the use & benefits of the new technology.
