EPT or HT develop high risk of breast cancer

A 2002 report from the clinical experiment in Women's Health Initiative (WHI) had found that the use of postmenopausal hormone therapy (HT) can increase the risk of breast cancer. After this report, the women using HT went down from 40% to almost 20%. But despite of this, even today 30 million women in Unites States are still using HT every year.

The postmenopausal hormone therapy (HT) allows women to use estrogen & progestin. Further, it has been found that those women who 've been using this estrogen therapy (ET) for more than 15 years now, will 've 19% higher risk of developing breast cancer, as compared to those who’d never used ET before. This study has been given by Tanmai Saxena, an MD/PhD student at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, & her colleagues. Plus, those women who used a combined therapy with estrogen plus progestin therapy (EPT) for more than 15 years had the highest risk, accounting 83%, as compared to those who never took these therapies.

Dr. Chlebowski, Lead Author of the WHI study of EPT, said, “The patient who is continuing to take ET or EPT after 15 years might also be different from a typical patient in other ways”.
