There is a misconception about HIV that the virus rarely infects old people. But the researchers warn that people over 50 are as much at risk from unsafe sex as the young.
According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) research, the HIV infection rate in people over 50 in European countries are more, as 299 new cases in 2000 were doubled to 710 in 2007. It is found that adults those who had gone through HIV test between 2000 & 2007 were infected at age of 50. The researchers said that people should go through regular HIV test, whatever the age may be, but should 've safe sex using condom to prevent the risk of infection. The findings were presented at the AIDS 2010 conference in Vienna.
